The preparation of ceiling is very important in every construction project because it’s not only a structural element but also a finished surface, which can be decorated. Here at RKND we specialise in MF ceiling, suspended ceiling and acoustic ceiling.

MF ceiling

MF ceiling is also known as metal frame plasterboard ceiling. This ceiling is a combination of strong metal and versatile plasterboard. MF Ceiling is formed and aligned with the help of the metal frames. When frames are done, plasterboard sheets are attached to the frames.

MF Ceiling can help to save energy because the air gap between the plasterboard and the structural ceiling acts as the warm air trap. If you want to take this even further insulators can be installed in between the MF ceiling and concrete ceiling.

With MF ceiling installed it’s very easy to install and reinstall ceiling lights, do and redo the electric or any other wiring. Because of this MF ceiling is perfect for new build and refurbishment projects.

Suspended ceiling

The suspended ceiling is also known as a false ceiling or dropped ceiling. The idea behind this type of ceiling is that the whole structure functions as a secondary ceiling that hangs below the structural one.

The suspended ceiling is built by creating a square or rectangular frame where finished panels are sat. For this reason it is very easy to replace the panels, install ventilation panels or ceiling lights. Because of the structure, it is very easy to maintain suspended ceilings.

A suspended ceiling can also improve acoustics, by lowering the ceiling height in the room. Because of this most studios and offices use suspended ceilings as the way to go.

Acoustic ceiling

The largest unbroken area in the room is the ceiling. Big areas usually cause acoustic problems like echos and excess noise and the most common areas where these problems appear are classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, studios or cinemas.

To remediate these problems sound-absorbing/acoustic ceiling can be installed. Acoustic ceiling absorbs sound that would otherwise bounce from the ceiling back to the open space of the room.

Good acoustics can be achieved in two ways:

  • One way is to install independent acoustic panels on the ceiling, which will absorb sound waves. This method does improve acoustics in the room, but it’s not ideal. Each property is different and everyone has their budget and style to suit but typically the second option is the preferred.
  • Another way is to install a sound-absorbing suspended ceiling. This method highly improves the acoustics in the room, because the whole ceiling is covered in noise absorbing material.
