Screeding is a levelled layer of material (e.g. cement) applied to a floor or other surface.
Here at RKND we specialise in screeding, which is a process when the screed is laid to flatten even the biggest indentations to give a smooth and levelled finish. Screeding helps to improve and maintain structural integrity.
Most common situations when screeding is the best practice:

  • To level up the floor – this will give a smooth and leveled surface for the final floor to be installed. The leveled floor will prevent squeaking and it will help to maintain integrity.
  • To install underfloor heating – this will help to cover heating elements. This will secure the heating elements in place and prevent them from being damaged.

Types of screed

There are a large variety of screeds available on the market. RKND can advise which one of the following would best suit your needs:

  • Traditional screed: The standard screed which is a mixture of cement and sand. This screed is used to create a defined layer on which the final floor can be installed.
  • Free flow screed: This screed is also known as a self-leveling and self-compacting screed. This screed gives very reliable results, but it cannot be used in wet areas or as a wearing surface.
  • Floor leveling screed: These screeds are used to achieve a high level of surface regularity or flatness. Floor leveling screed is usually used with tiles or vinyl as a final floor finish.
  • Structural screed: If you have a precast floor, this type of screeding is the way to go. Before laying down structural screed some calculations need to be done to determine the load requirements, flexural strength bending moment and etc.
  • Fast-drying/Accelerated Screed: This is used when dry time is crucial. This type of screed usually dries in 3 days after screeding, so the final floor can be laid down faster than when using other screeds.
